When I pick up my truck tomorrow from a place I got undercoat done. It's called armaguard which is identical to linex. They spray the whole underside except drive train and exhaust. Will post pics tomorrow.

Shake or Vibration Issues
Jordan18 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Bragging up another brand of truck while on a different brand of truck's forum I would sort of consider as a lesser type of trolling (direct trolling being hard bashing and calling down other forum members while doing so), you're going to get defensive folks no matter how you spin it and even if you are just trying to "help". -
Can you send me a closeup pic of the bracket or post it in this thread? Curious to see more on how the can brace ring is attached to the RX/your own bracket there.
-
So the monster can automatically comes as dual valve? The mounting options could sure be looked into a little more on RX's side, I am not a fan of the bracket style in mine but it seems to be working so far right now in the standard brake booster location, if I stumble across a decent looking bracket in my travels I could utilize as a mount I might attempt to relocate to the spare battery area.

Installed my RX can today. Sorry for the mess, been driving some dusty roads lately. The wet drops on the intake cover are from some Seafoam spray that got away on me. I had a peak in the manifold and I could see an oil sheen so I thought it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot just to clean it up a bit. Another pic.

Bear in mind this is all dust stuck to the wax, and I cannot really see if there are any spots peeling. Truck is currently at 6000 miles, have been on a few gravel roads. Yes that is my FORD work truck sitting in one of the pictures.

I had a look undermine quickly this morning, I cannot see any spots that are peeling off, and this was right after an undercarriage wash. Dust/dirt just sticks to this wax like nothing so it still looks half assed dirty. Will try to snap pics after it dries some more.
-
Can you take pictures of where it's coming off? Mine was built the exact same time as yours, haven't noticed the obvious spots yet. I'll take look right underneath later on today. I talked to a rep from Krown who also does oil spray in Canada, they stated that spraying over the wax will actually speed up the deterioration which leaves me stumped on which way to go before the snow and salt flies.

Shake or Vibration Issues
Jordan18 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
I would consider Toyota if they actually put more effort into the Tundra. To me it's the same Truck since 06/07. The new restyle was just that, no real drive-train changes (I know this could contribute to reliability while keeping the interior up to date). The 5.7 they have in it is a pig on fuel and not the best power in the pack. I categorize resale the same as other "niches" in trucks: Sierras and Silverados claim lowest cost of ownership and V8 fuel econ, Toyota also claims reliability, Ram/Ford battle on CLASS fuel mileage and towing. I picked whatever stands out to me the most, which was V8 capability. For the next gen it could definitely be a contender if they switched to DI or updated the fuel delivery someway somehow, or put a comparable diesel to the new Titan in it. Wait for MikeNH to comment on toyotas... -
Shake or Vibration Issues

I was just reading some on the Ford forums today, sounds similar to the GM issues. And here's some RAM 8 speed woes. http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=196654 http://www.ramforumz.com/showthread.php?t=190906 No matter the brand, there will always be risks with quality/lemons. -
My XM cuts out on some spots that normally I think shouldn't cut reception. My mobile receiver was much more reliable. FM reception seems to be normal though.

I asked Krown about their process and GM frames in general. Their reply below "Thanks for taking the time to contact us. The factory coating will peel and flake off on it’s own but the application of our product will certainly accelerate this process. It is not necessary to remove the wax ahead ot time, but there are a couple options you can consider. You can have the application done and avoid treating the frame rails if you are concerned about the appearance of the coating that is on there. Alternately, we can treat the vehicle as normal. We would suggest you return a few months following this for a no charge touch up to the areas where the coating is peeling. We have also attached some info from GM regarding this coating product." I may wait for a winter or 2 before doing anything to see how the 15' frames hold up. I've seen videos/pics of new GMs on lots with rust underneath, mine has none at all so they did change something over the last 1-2 years. The info they attached was a GM SB for wax frame treating, same as to what was posted here earlier.

In other words ending up with crappy oil that could be detrimental further down the road, where as just venting could cause issues. With these catch can systems you are still, to my knowledge, bringing out those gases to the intake? With the exception be you are just extending the pcv vent path and dropping out any liquid in the process in the can.

RX single valve system. Being in Canada supposedly was suppose to get a monster can (advertised right after I bought the standard can) to deal with the excessive liquid drop out in colder temps. But seeing what Silverado-Hareek said below being in Virginia he just drained more often. However we see colder temps here, -15 to -25 (-4 degrees F average) degrees Celsius is common with the odd snap of -30 to -40 (-31 F avg). I honestly don't have a problem draining every 100+ mile road trip if it demands it in the winter knowing that I could be keeping this crap out of my intake. My one concern though is of any possible freezing in the system itself, as water is known to drop out in this as well. One could argue the stock system could then theoretically freeze until the engine is warmed up and the engine bay is toasty engine to thaw anything. I mostly speaking of when I want to drain it will the little valve just freeze for a few minutes if cold enough. Got a reply from RX, the bracket was redesigned to give more mounting options so we'll see how that plays out when I install it. The check valve changed based on their suppliers of the material. The black ones are the plastic and the one I received is aluminium. They said it will swing back and forth depending on demand.

I plan on putting mine on here this weekend and see how well it does in the excessively hot conditions we are experiencing in Alberta, I can't see it catching a lot as a result.

Strictly emissions is what I would gather. If you took your truck in to have oil change/service and you just had a free breathing system I am sure it would cause a stir at the dealer and they would try to void your warranty because they built the truck to meet the CAFE standard for emissions. Emission systems are becoming more and more strict, just look at diesel exhaust systems. Now with DI systems causing sooty tailpipes I am sure some environmental person will take note of that and we'll have filters similar to diesel exhausts, no joking really.

Shake or Vibration Issues
Jordan18 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
So you've just started to notice a vibration in your 15' NHT? Was it there from the start and how many miles do you have now? Mine is sitting at 1600 miles now and have had it for nearly a month, not even a hint of any vibration. Mine is completely stock except for the borla exhaust. Mexico built and crew cab seem to separate ours as I remember we had identical build dates from the Max Tow thread. Plus I seen your new jewelry on it. -
What type gas do you use? 87? 89? 92?

Try it and see if the truck changes in mileage or power feel. I have filled up at 3 different stations: Co-op (Independent company, fuel is refined in Saskatchewan,Canada; regarded as top tier here), Petro-Canada (Suncor energy based filling station, Suncor is heavily involved in the oil sands in northern Alberta, also regarded as top tier), and Shell. I "seem" to have the best mileage with Shell fuel, and I tried driving in equivalent distances and conditions, still seemed to get an average of 1 mpg better than the other 2. Shell also came out with a "better" 91 called v power nitro, see link. I have been to a few stations with it. http://www.kcentv.com/story/29220198/new-shell-v-power-nitro-premium-gasoline-introduces-breakthrough-formulation-for-best-total-engine-protection -
I know I would be probably everytime I would drive it in the winter. On another note I decided at call the one and only local dealer in my town about them. Spoke to the shop manager and he stated he never seen a catch can or heard of them. He did state modifying the engine in anyway shape or form could automatically void the warranty which I found excessive based on what I read here. Even if you ran into some trouble engine related it could easily be restored back to stock state, my only issue is when they are doing oil changes and they make a note of it or immediately void the warranty. This is a small town dealership we are talking about so I may get a hold of some dealers in the cities and see what they say. Problem with me is this is my local dealer where I plan to get oil changes done at. This sucks. UPDATE: Here's a reply from the dealer I purchased the truck from. "Hello Jordan, This is Natasha from Southgate Service, I am emailing on behalf of Randy Folkmann in regards to the “ catch cans” you were inquiring about. In speaking to the shop foreman, the installation of the catch cans will not void any of your vehicles warranty, neither new vehicle or powertrain warranty will be voided. However, in saying so. If the installation of the catch can causes a “ light” or a “ code” to become present, and the replacement of the catch can is needed or the concern was caused because of the catch can, that replacement or repair is not under warranty, as for it is a add on or accessory to the vehicle, therefore not included in the original make of the vehicle. I hope that answers any questions you may have, however If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reply to this message. Thank you Natasha" I think I am comfortable now, I also asked her about how many they have seen come through their dealer if they have them installed. Their shop foreman obviously has seen some judging on his more informed reply than the foreman from my local dealer.

Attached pic of the kit. There's this silver clamp that isn't in any previous pics I have seen in this thread. You can also see the silver check valve by the bag of fittings that's also different looking than others in this thread.
-
My Rx can came in yesterday. I decided to read through the thread again. Looking at some pictures it looks as though the check was redesigned, I'll post pics of the kit later. My slight concern is the size of the can and the hose lengths provided, which the latter I can just buy more if needed. It was right after I ordered the can they advertised the monster can being recommended in colder climates which is a fact of life in Canada, being as meticulous as i am if i keep the smaller can ill be draining every week in the winter for good peace of mind. I'll probably run this through the summer and see how it works.

Once I get mine installed and I hit that 15K mile mark down the road I want to boroscope the valves and see what they look like. I can see induction services making there way to most dealers as more engines become DI, or they go the route of an auxiliary injector. Which one can they make more money off of? A good guess.

Shake or Vibration Issues
Jordan18 replied to Silver space ship's topic in Troubleshooting & Recalls
Build date of March 27th On an max tow. First thing I tried to replicate were every speed people were experiencing these vibrations and I couldn't replicate any of them, stock factory tires and biggest addition is the borla exhaust (not that it should but wanted to list any key differences between stock and aftermarket). On secondary highway I took it to 80-90 mph and still nothing, towing 4000lbs still nothing, 30mph holding and nothing, harsh and slow acceleration and nothing. One thing I noticed when reading on difference between a 2014 and 2015 was a "enhanced/upgraded rear end" but I didn't read much into the details. No clunking or crappy 8 speed related issues either and these NHTs are a fresh product in the last 2-3 months with a changed ratio in the 8 speed and beefed up rear end. It's a piss off to see many people facing these issues while others like myself experience none(seems contradictory but no one should have to deal with quality issues these days), no real trend to speak of in terms of build dates as some earlier ones vibrate and some don't. Some 2015s do and some don't. Some are 6 sp and some are 8 sp. I have seen any complaints from guys with 2015 NHTs on this site yet though. -
I seen something on their website regarding "now with new redesigned bracket" or something along those lines. I ordered mine direct from RX in Florida, I can sense that sending it up here to Alberta, Canada will take some time. But it's a complete kit (clean side sep) and not just the catch can and hoses. Fun fact, I have my brother interested in one as well now, he was a 2014 F150 with ecoboost and about 20K miles on it, not impressed with the declining mileage. I told him to take a look at his pcv lines and intake, nicely soaked with oil. Ecoboosts are bad in that that stuff is churning through the turbo before going to his intake, can't be too good. He probably needs a induction service already.
