Obs Auto Trac Dash Switch

I'm getting the Service 4WD light on my 2000 Escalade (think 1999 Tahoe/Yukon gr_grin.gif)...

I cannot make the truck go into 4 Low (light just blinks) and I cannot hear the front differential engage when I push 4 Hi (but it will change and light up)...

From what I can find here doing the search, it is quite possible that this is just the switch having the problem and not the differential...I have had intermittent lighting of the switch (2 Hi*Auto*4 Hi*4 Low) when the headlights are on so this seems to have just progressed...

The Problem: What is this part actually called and what is the part number???...mine has Lucas 551079 Z-0191 15027104 written on it but I have been unsuccessful in finding this part listed online...I plan to do the change myself so the dealership is probably out based on the last parts I needed, their pricing and so on...

I have found a part called the transfer case shift switch but that has no pic and other pics I found look like a mechanical switch and not this dash switch...another site showed a part listed as TCA22 for $120.79 but this also had no pic and seems to be the price of the part for the differential and not for the dashboard...

A check on the 'Bay showed one of these with no description on whether or not the part even works...

Any help would be appreciated...I am hoping to do what appears to be an easy swap out and hopefully fix quick...

Thanks,

Bill

That is your part number. Search gmpartsdirect.com and it will have switch as the description. It is very easy to change the switch. You can also get the code scanned to make life easier. You will get a Tcase code and it will say exactly whats wrong. I had to change my TCCM, C0315 was my code. (do you here a clicking when you turn the key? If you do then it works) and that was easy as well. The TCCM is the brain for the 4wd. If that is your problem then change it yourself. The dealer wanted $600 and the part is $350. It is right above the pedals more towards the drivers side.

Also to make the truck go into 4 low you MUST be rolling over 1 MPH and under 5 MPH. Let's say you press 4 LOW at 15 MPH. The light will blink for 10 seconds until you are rolling under 5 MPH. If you do not go under 5 MPH it will stop blinking and switch back to whatever you were in. This is a safety feature so you don't ruin the drivetrain.

Cool. Did you try to engage 4 LOW like I mentioned? That's the only way it will engage.

I tried...it didn't go into 4 Low...whichever it is, solenoid, switch (or both) it worked for a bit yesterday...I could hear/feel it engage the front differential but then it stopped working again...waiting on a price for the switch from one dealership and making an appointment to have it scanned at the place I get work done...

Part arrived from UPS minutes ago...disconnected old switch...plugged in new switch...check for function: 2 Hi, Auto, 4 Hi, 4 Low...turn on headlights, switch backlights perfectly...and it is just that easy.

I had no idea GM still made this switch (19168765) and looked on ebay...for not much more than an unwarranted old part (probably has the same problem as mine as I read this is a common ill) off of ebay I have a new Genuine GM part installed and my 2000 Cadillac Escalade (Tahoe putting on airs ;) is back running like it should.

Thanks so much...even though I am just outside Chicago Illinois I ONLY buy my GM parts from Fichtner Chevrolet and Bob Wendorff (since 2001)

Thanks again,

Bill

    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
    • Correct.  2019-2021 model years are serviced by a different p/n.  19420611.  Recall 2021s use 19420611.   The recall engines 2022-2024 model years are serviced with 12740076.     The difference between 19420611 and 12740076 is GM changed injector size for 2022.  The injectors are smaller on 12740076 with smaller injector bores in the cylinder heads to match the smaller injectors.  So you can't install a 19420611 in a 2022-2024, and you can't install a 12740076 in a 2019-2021.     Both engines are the replacement engine p/ns that are in the L87 recall.  So both of these are the updated engines.     Here's a version of the L87 recall with the p/ns for all the parts needed.    RCRIT-25V274-7075.pdf   Note it shows 19420611 and 12740076 with an asterisk to a footnote "Use the VIN and the GM Electronic Parts Catalog (EPC) to determine which part to order if two or more part numbers are listed for the same part, as it may vary by vehicle options."
    • Looking for advice from this group. Took my flawless 2020 6.2 TB to an unnamed shop for routine rear brakes and oil change. Tech forgot to put oil back in after the full service and needles to say, destroyed my engine.  It’s all on their shop video so they are responsible.   I had my Chevy dealer do the analysis and they confirmed its compromised and said engine replacement. The manager said they only get GM reman engines from GM with full 3 yr warranty and the one they would put in is not same as what’s they are swapping out on 21-25 for recall.    I am looking for advice why that would be a different engine because obviously I had the good 6.2 year and replacing it has my concerns with that recall for 21-15   Also what’s the pros and cons of accepting the engine swap vs telling the shop that bricked the truck to pay up so I buy a new truck. I’m concerned about stigma resale eventually if I just decide to get rid of it after the swap or other issues showing up after the swap out.
    • Just looked up my records.  I've never gone over 5000 miles between oil changes.  At 46K miles, I have 10 oil changes.  I hope that will help.  I also installed the disabler last year.  I've still had a few times when it didn't seem to engage (which I can tell because the start stop feature kicks in), but for the most part, I think it's working.  For some reason, GM did not include the number of cylinders running in the information screen like I had on other models.  In my Cadillac, it shows me when it's running on 4 cylinders on the fuel milage screen.  I can't find that on my '21 Denali.
