freelance1957 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 hello i am new here but have come straight on to the forum without introduction, so please excuse my impatience, i am in the uk running a non turbo diesel 1500 sierra pickup truck, it starts fine when cold and also when hot if started immediately from stopping, but if i leave it ten minutes it cranks over but will not fire, the heater plug light fails to illuminate even momentarily, it it does show then the engine will fire up. when it doesn't start, it will always fire up on a tow, in just a few feet. perhaps a few of you could point me in the right direction, many thanks

Whenever a diesel has a harder time starting check the glow plugs. If that has been addressed, look at the fuel pressure to see if the pump is straining under the delayed on/off cycle.

Sir Dan Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 You might get some better info if you post this question over on the Heavy Duty Truck section of the forums. That's where the oil burner owners hang out... http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/index.php?...&s=&f=4
