I had the exact same problem. I still had reverse so i kept driving it and ended up losing 4th as well. I took the tranny out and took it to a shop and they already had a rebuilt one ready as this is a common problem with the 4L60E. I had to also buy a cooler for the tranny as well. But mine is back in and working now.

when you tore the tranny down and replaced broken reaction carrier and sun gear, you should of done a complete rebuild. Your clutches are probably bad. When I rebuilt my pops tranny I found the 3-4 clutch pack to be bad but I replaced all clutch packs. Never half a$$ a tranny build. You are just asking for problems.

If you're going in there, you might as well do it all. No sense in waiting for something else to wear out and have to do the same work twice.

Well said. How many of these have you rebuilt?? Is it as easy as it looks?? Saw one done onXtreme 4x4, can it really be that easy??

It is that easy. Most important is soak the clutches for at least 30 min in fresh tranny fluid. Get Haynes techbook #10360 "General motors Automatic transmission overhaul" Makes rebuilding easy.

What about all the electronics?? or is there much?

No Just some wires just make sure you are carefull in disconnecting them and that you put them back in the correct place. If you can assemble a model car with glue then you can rebuild a tranny.
