Silverado Popping/snapping Under Load

Hi i have a 2000 silverado 4x4 with the 5.3 and i noticed after a long trip with it that it now has a snapping/popping sound under load or during acceleration, at frist i thought it was a bad wire grounding out but i changed all the plugs and wires and also looked at it at night to see if i could see spark coming from anywhere but nothing.

so i jumped in the back and got the wife to drive it around and it sounds like its coming right from the back of the cab where the box meets it. it is possible that the cat is clogged and causing this? does not do it while idling or reving in park.

My friends truck was doing that and it turned out he needed to replace his cat because it was rotten and the metal inside that was rotted was clogging it. Hope this helps

yea i am thinking its the cat and since the trip was long, 16 hours pulling a boat i figured maybe that did the cat in and now its clogged

hey hockey pro...i seen in a recent thread that you cut yours out?? how did that work out for ya?? i ran my last pick up with just straight cats and it seemed too lose power, did your truck lose power or fuel eco????

if i put just pipes in place of the cats will it throw any codes since there's no cat infront of the last set of o2 sensors?

just got it back from having the cats removed and i am still getting the popping/snapping sound. will have to crawl under it and check again to make sure i wire is not bare and grounding out
