Factory Security

Not sure if this is the rigtht forum for this, but I'm trying to figure out my new (to me) truck and have a security question...

The manual talks about a "Contents security" or something like that, that is indicated by a flashing symbol (orange car/padlock) on the dash. It says this light should flash after you lock the doors from the exterior with the fob. My light goes on when I lock the doors, but then goes off and stays off. There is a small flashing red light on the front face of the stereo head unit, but I suspect that's just a dummy.

Can someone en"lighten" me? Sorry for the bad pun.

I think by hitting the key lock twice activates the security. Someone told me that a while back. Other than that, I know nothing..

That light is for the radio unit itself, not the vehicle,it means that the radios theftlock feature is activated.

I have an 05 silvy with a comand start ,

when you follow the alarm test instructions in the GM manual

put the window down ,close the door arm the system

wait for the lock light to go off

reach through the window and try to unlock the door

the horn should go off and your lights should flash.I think

mine simply makes all the lock buttons and the door handle in operable

so you would have to climb in the window to get anything

yet when I press my key fob lock button twice my horn sounds and my signal lights flash

I am trying to figure out if the camand start was installed wrong or the alarm is shut off

some how, the DIC is set to both so if yours works that way can you please let me know?

So I tried it tonight and yes, it works. Tried unlocking the doors through the open window and teh horn and lights went off - kinda scared me, even though I thought it might happen. :P

...Now do as a theif will do. Stick a screw driver under the door handle & pry up. Let us know what happens next as the door swings open, or more like what does not happen when the door opens. Better yet, do this on your neighbors truck as it might leave a little damage.

Interesting...

Well I guess I won't need to worry too much, at least not about the truck being stolen. Where I live, the truck is on a list of vehicles that require an imobilizer to be installed in order to insure the truck. So sometime within the next 3 months, I'll have to get that installed, and that should keep her out of the hands of the bad guys...

A professional car theif will get the car no matter what if they they really want it. What the factory security system does is deter wanna be's and neighborhood pests from breaking in to steal valuables. Plus it makes the vehicle that's sitting next to it in a parking lot that doesn't have any type of security system look more appealing

I agree totally. Why make it easy, right? I do not imagine there are too many "professionals" interested in these trucks - at least not in my city where there seem to be thousands of them.

well thanks for the input guys I knew mine wasn't working properly

doesn't sound like it does much anyway except for the paslock maybe

so its off to the stealer ship I go

My 92 sierra got the screw driver treatment I'm suprised

that GM hasn't put a plate in the door or something to stop that in the newer ones

you'd think the cost of insurance claims might prompt it at the factory

just gotta figure out how to put a couple hundred Amps through that door

so the screwdriver handle melts to the skin on there hand when they try to pry it
