Mud Flaps To Protect Rear Body

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

My first truck was a 1989 (or was it 87? My memory now fails me...) Suburban. It died a premature death due to body and frame rust, despite having less than 100,000 miles on the jasper engine/transmission that was installed after the original powertrain gave up the ghost.

So, I am now (perhaps overly) paranoid about touching up every little rock chip I find, and doing everything I can to prevent rust on my 2003 Yukon XL.

One of the places that is a real problem area is the part of the body that wraps down and around the frame behind the rear wheels. That whole area is getting shot blasted all the time and is constantly showing chips in the paint.

I don't want to spend my life touching up rock chips down there, so I'm planning on getting some mud flaps. Any reason I couldn't just go with some cheap rubber flaps, like these?
