Got some new goodies coming!

I just bought 2 Dynomax Thrush Turbo Mufflers to replace my Azzmaster 40's.  Those things are just TOO loud.  I also ordered a Universal Balance Pipe kit... so I can put the well needed H-pipe in.   And I will weld the entire exhaust system up.  I've heard those Thrush's on my friend's '78 484BB Z28 and they sound ALOT better and MUCH QUIETER than my stupid Flow's.

I also ordered a 16" Electric cooling fan with a Variable temperature control since summers almost here and I still have no cooling other than by driving through the air.

Thats funny that your flows were too loud.  I have them on my 78 and they are no louder than the stock dual exhaust unless you really open it up on then they are pretty loud.  For normal driving I find them excellent.  What size pipes are you running?

2.5"

That's probably part of why they're so loud, that and the Performer cam too.   But I also don't like their "tone".. that Flowmaster signature 'rasp' is just annoying, IMO.   I want something different and potentially quieter.  Hopefully the H-pipe will aid in sound control some too.

Cool...I think you'll like the Super Turbos...that's what I've got on the Sub.  Nice mellow tone at idle, quiet at low RPMs, but nice and wild at heavy throttle and high RPMs.  Mine had a slight drone around 75 mph, but when I swapped the cam it went away.  Definitely do the H-pipe, makes it much more mellow and alot quieter inside.  The best part is that a 454 with headers and 2-1/2" pipes with Super Turbos has enough bass to set off car alarms while idling through parking garages...

The verdict:  AWESOME!

Those Super Turbos w/ the welded H-pipe sound amazing in comparison to the leaky independent flowmaster system that was on there.     So much smoother, quieter and mellower, and very little if any rasp at WOT 3000+ rpms.

You should have seen some of those welds though.   It looked like molten metal exploded out of the joints and then hardened instantly.     I think a 5 year old could have done better welds...... but, who cares.   They're sealed up and I got alot of good practice. :)

I've gotta do some work to the tailpipes yet.... right now I'm running stright out the back end of the muffler because I lost 8" that needs to be made up in the tailpipes, and I ran out of time.    After the tailpipes are back on it should be quieter yet.

At any rate, I had alot of fun doing this little 'pull and rebuild' project on my exhaust.

Now, if I can just get the stupid header flange to quit leaking......
