Could someone tell me the what was the standard 4spd manual transmission that came in a 1981 2wd C10 with the 6cyl engine?  Also what would be a good drop in replacement for that tranny?  Thanks.''

Does your tranny have a low first gear? Can you drive over 10 MPH in First without over reving the engine?

 

If you answered yes, then you have CH465 Manual 4 speed with a granny First gear. If you have a higher first gear then you have a Getrag manual 4 speed with an 0.70 overdirve 4th gear. But I don't think that the Getrag was avialable till 1983 or 1984. I will check and let you know

Yeah, the first gear is strickly for creeping along.  I would be lucky to get to 10MPH in that gear.  Effectively it is a 3spd manual with 1st gear reserved for stump pullin' only.  What tranny would drop right in without too much shifter interferrence?  Thanks.
