with todays market and all of these companies that make hundreds of different parts i only have two installed on my 2005 2500 duramax turbo back 4" exaust and cold air intake now im looking a programer to really step up the performance however it seems to be there are a good handfull of programers and i do not directly know what i want or know the best for my buck dont want to spend 400 on a programer and find out there is a better one for 350 i have a price range from around 600 and down i was looking at the banks 6 gun but some of my buddies say its not that good because you have to buy other stuff to go with it i thought it was a whole kit. (other than the speed loader) but any way if i could get a few ideas to help me it would be very appreciated.

Mechanic friend told me it is possible to gain up to 200 horses and 100 plus in tq with diesels. He didn't mention which programmer though. I kinda find it a little hard to believe that a programmer would achieve that much power, perhaps there was alot of stuff he left out that also needed to be done.

I put exhaust, air intake, and an Edge Juice w/Attiude on my 03' Dmax, and that was the best $1400 I ever spent on any vehicle I've ever owned. HP jumped to 430 and TQ went over 800 ft lbs. Just keep the programmer on 3 or lower, and do your tranny a favor. Or buy a Sun Coast or ATS Allison and leave it on full blast :( I drove that truck every day for over 2 years, and it ram great. No problems, and better mpg's.

200 horses with only 100 ftlbs doesn't sound right to me at all,,, typically we've been seeing it the other way

on the cummin's we have been going edge for the past 4 pickups

the 2005 was intake / exhaust and a juice programmer, 1201 ftlbs of torque on the dyno (did this first week of ownership)

right now it has 130k miles on it, the vast majority of those miles dragging a 38ft gooseneck

the new one arrived last week and it'll get the same treatment

comparing the 05 to the new truck is very disappointing, the new one is a total pooch when in factory trim :idiot:

if you do any work with a programmer on a diesel make sure to get a dyno done, its the only why to know what your paying for

Actually you are correct. He did say more tq then hp with a programer. I think the hp gain was 100-150 and tq 200 plus.

You made 1201 on the dyno with tq? Curious, what did the truck feel like with all that tq pulling? I could only imagine what 1201 ft tq would do by implanting you in the seat upon acceleration. What about taking your foot off the pedal? Did you get that thrust forward feeling like in which you experience in the 2010 camaro SS?

yep 1201 from the tq camp on the dyno, that was in a 2005 dodge 3/4 ton, from memory the truck had about 300 miles on it when we did this, now that same truck has 130k on it, we haven't done any changes to the setup so we haven't rerun the dyno, but it would be interesting to see what it'll do today with all those miles

empty it doesn't feel that shocking, it isn't like it can slam you back into the seat like a high performance car can (we also have a vette, it's absolutely more violent then the pickups) but there is this constant and strong pull that starts from the line and doesn't ever seem to stop, its kinda like the difference between a 2 stroke and 4 stroke quad, a banshee for example is violent and very rev happy, a raptor on the other hand has this constant pull that seems to go on forever but doesn't respond like the banshee

when your towing, like really towing (>40k lbs gross) thats when it's absolutely shocking, our tow diesels with 40k gross will easily drive circles around my 2500hd 6.0 when I'm under 20k gross, and they'll get twice the milage

this summer we brought back 2 loads over 30k from jackson hole wy to eastern north dakota, that truck averaged 11 mpg (driving out with the 38ft goose then back fully loaded) on the return trip we were passed once :idiot:

That 05 is also setup with a jake brakes, air bags and huge tanks, basically its a purpose built work truck oh, and all our pickup tow rigs are manual trannies. For what we use them for the auto's just can't cut it, we do have a few gmc 5500's and they have the dmax's with the alison 3000 (i think thats the number, it's the one step up from the pickups) tranny. They seem to be fine but we only take those up to 28k gross as they roll through the scales all the time. No programmers on the 5500's, just stock trim.

Also take a look at the Smarty. I'm not sure if they out there for the Dmax, but they are VERY populat in the Cummins world and I have seen and heard of great results and reviews on these. My buddy has one on his 06 Cummins and loves it. All he has is an intake and the Smarty on Level 9 and pushing upwards of 900 ft. lbs of tq and maybe around 400hp. It's somewhere in that range but can't remember exact numbers.

so far everyone is pushing the edge juice that is what one of my buddies recomended over the banks and so far i have seen more truck with other programers other than banks i guess they are a little over rated. asfar as everyone running the edge juice has anyone really had any transmission problems? i know there are several levels of power you can choose from but im going to be doing more towing than playing however i like to have fun aswell! and another thing i dont mind if it does but will the edge create alot of black smoke????

i don't have any direct experience with tranny issues on the auto as we have only gone nutty with the power add's on manuals

but...

the edge setups (guessing others do as well) have the very cool ability to back off the power based on input from the tranny / engine

like if the exhaust temps get to hot you can set a limit on the temp then the programmer will back off the power, i believe it can do the same for the tranny based on temp and slipage

a couple of my buddies have the edge setups on DMax's, neither has had any tranny issues, one of them is on their 4th DMax, each of them was run out to around 100k, lots of miles with a 30ft job trailer behind all of them, no tranny issues on any of them
