Suggestions For My Transmission

I'm afraid that my transmission is about to give me some trouble. I have an 02 GMC 2wd with the 5.3 (115,000 miles)extended cab. I really notice it the most when I'm ideling around or stoped on a hill and try to idle up it. It feels like it is lossing power, but the engine idle never moves. The other agrevating thing that I have noticed since this began, when I put it in park and go to turn off the engine and remove the key it won't turn all the way back. I have to push the gear shifter forward and then the key cylinder releases and I can remove the key. Other than those problems it shifts out fine and doesn't give me any other trouble. If anyone knows what may be going on or have a suggestion as to what might fix it or stretch out the life of the transmission I would greatly appreciate it! I let my cousin drive the truck and as you might expect it drove fine and could not reproduce the problems.

it sounds terminal. i would drive it to the beach and park it by the water at low tide and make sure you carry some floaties so you can say you were launching your boat.

Drop it by a transmission shop and have them take a look at it

Yeah thats probably what I'm gonna have to do. I'm really thinking hard about whether I need to just trade it in on another one or not!

A trans is a whole lot cheaper than a new 25-30G truck......you can get a built 4l60e for around 2k (not installed)....so a stocker should be a good bit less.

In what kind of condition is the rest of the truck?

The rest of the Truck is in really good shape. Brand new tires, clean interior everything that I want in a truck! I don't really want to get rid of the truck, but if I don't do it pretty soon I probably wont be able to and not get racked over the coals.

Well financially it would make more sense just to fix it. 4 payments of a new truck will getcha a new trans. With only 115k on it, so long as nothing has been abused, the engine's got a lot of life left in it. And as you said, it's everything you want in a truck, so just keep it.

i think those spark plugs and wires fixed your problem, but i think you should still burn that POS to the ground!
