Fuel Gauge Problem

I have a 99 suburban & when I turn the key on the gage go to full then after a short time there is a noise like a breaker popping & the gage goes to empty. all the other gages work normally,does any one have any idea where to start looking for the short.

Most likely the sender on the pump is bad.

+1 Sending unit. I had the same problem and had to do the entire fuel pump.
