Plastic Step Popped Loose On Gm Nerf Bar

The plastic step popped loose on the very back end of my passenger side GM nerf bar. There's a pin that goes into the hole on the chrome tube and locks into place. The pin has a 2-sided tab that didn't seem to catch and lock under the hole. I bent the tab out a little and hit it with a rubber mallet. That would hold until you stepped on the nerf bar - then pop up again. So now after a few tries with bending the little tabs, they weakened and broke so now it's loose for good. I thought about epoxy but that doesn't seem too permanent. Maybe I could drill a small hole through the plastic and chrome bar and put a small black screw through it along with the epoxy. Any ideas?

I think you's be fine with some type of epoxy, or silicone

A big dollup of silicone on the pin and around the hole and clamp it overnight should do it. Thanks.
