Truck Leaning?

My 03 1500HD is leaning to the drivers side a little, the step bar on the same side is a little sloppy, i think they are mounted to the body bushings, could they wear out the bushing causing it to lean? If so how hard are they to replace and where to get them?

I not sure the step bar could wear out the body bushings...if so, I suspect it is a dealer item...or a junk yard.

 

I would measure from the top of the fender to the ground on both sides in the front and rear....if there is a difference, I would then measure from the fram to the ground in all four corners....that way you'll know if it is the body leaning or the suspension sagging...how many miles on the truck??

They all lean somewhat to the left. The fuel tank is on that side. If you measure make sure the truck is LEVEL. Measure at the middle fender opening. GM doesn't care if its not over 1/2 inch.

 

Personally I have never seen one that didn't lean some. I stopped taking a tape measure to my truck long ago.

I have owned the truck since it was new, it is definitely leaning but i will measure to double check, the truck has 70k miles.

Your side stets would not cause your truck to lean, yes they are mounted to the body mounts and rubber bushings.

 

I would suspect that you are having a problem with either a shock or broken suspension part (you do have 70k on it). Do you wheel with it? Drive over bad roads with potholes?

 

Lots of reasons for a part to break or just wear out to a point that it will cause the truck to lean. I know my parents had a '78 suburban and that leaned 'cause I managed to break 2 of the springs in the rear heavy duty spring pack when I hit a ditch going a little too fast.

Skip the Mcd's.. it will stop leaning.. But all seriousness, i have a 03 and at 63k i noticed a broken rear shock absorber, and the fronts need replacing as well, so check those, and remember, as they mentioned, fuel tank, also simple one thats easy to overlook is air pressure in the tires.

 

Shocks I went with were the Monroe reflex's, but alot on here run bilsteins, both would be a good shock, reguardless if any are broken on a ride with 70k.
