2008 Gmc Courtesy (dome Entry) Lighting

I have an 08 GMC Z71 Sierra crew cab that was wrecked about a month ago. Someone pulled out and hit me broadside. Both doors were replaced but the internals (latches, handles, panels, etc...) are all original. Got it back from the body shop and the dome lighting will not come on when the drivers front or rear doors are opened, but will when the passenger (side that was NOT wrecked) are opened. However, when the truck is running and in gear, and the driver's side doors are opened, the latch sensor indicates the door open signal in the instrument panel. Body shop can't figure it out. Are there multiple sensors in the doors for dome lighting vs. door open? Any help is appreciated.

 

P.S. I'm confident the dome light switch is not in the override position -- as said, the passenger side works just fine.

I'd call the insurance company of the other vehicle and tell them the situation... You have to take it to the dealer and they prob. will have to replace one by one of every switch / harness / button in the door until the problem is fixed.

 

It's up to them to pay for the dealer's time and parts , and your rental while its being fixed!

Assuming someone in the dealer has a volt meter and a test light there is no reason they should just start replacing things till the issue goes away.

 

That said I'll give a +1 on contacting the insurance company (your company not theirs, let the body shop or your insurance company take care of them don't do it yourself). This is a continuing problem from the accident and should be covered but they need to ok anything above the ok'd amount of repair before doing more work. It's not out of the ordinary for a body shop to not be able to handle some of the electronics and have to out source repairs or diagnosis.

I am pretty sure that there is a button on the dash somewhere to enable/disable the dome lights when the doors are open. I am thinking that it is left of the steering wheel. I will check for sure tomorrow.

The dome light is working with the passenger doors, that isn't it.
