Noise From Guage Cluster 2001 Silverado

My 2001 silverado has started to make a whining noise from the speedo/tach area. I suspect its from one of the two guages...

 

Does anyone know if the guage cluster can be opened up and lubricated to fix the noise.

If its a stepper motor you will have to change it out.

Stepper motor problems were very common back in the early GMT800 and GMT360 trucks, I'd be willing to bet that's what it is.
