Cd Player problems in 1999 Silverado

Brother in law has a 1999 w/stock CD player.  Has recently started getting ERR messages on standard store bought CD's.  Any hints or is this simple...its new CD player time????  Is the CD player in this GM model/year prone to this?

dont know if this will work but how bout a cleaning?  Do they have a cd cleaner?

mine plays rap better than that nasty bluegrass ####

just have him clean it out  with a can of compressed air  then slowly insert the cd's in

Weird...I was getting that Err message on the 97 and it would kick the CD back out.  Had the dealership replace the CD/Tape player from a 99 Silverado and haven't had any problems since.

They didn't tell me what the problem was so I can't really help ya :D

WOAH!!! Slow down!  All this technical info has me spinning..... I told him I didnt think there was much you could do with a cd player out of warrantee.  Probably not worth the hassle of pulling and seeing if it could be fixed.  Just replace.  Anyone disagree?

Okay    Newbie   I'll    go    slower.    just    get     some    compressed   air   and   spray    it    out,   also   use   a   cd   lens   cleaner.    if   that   doesn't    work,   contact   ACDelco   and   if    they    can't    do    anything    look   in   the   for   sale    forum    for    a   stock   cd    player.   they    are    easy    to    remove,   even    I    could   do   it.

This might sound a bit out there but this could explain it. The recording industry has started implimenting a copy protection method that keeps cds from being "ripped" into MP3s. This copy protection isnt compatible with all cd players and will cause some players to not read the cd and in your case spit it back out. This might be the problem!

Back this summer I got that trouble with the CD player in our truck, it spit the CD out and it was covered with water!  It was a really humid hot day, so I'm thinking with as many times as I opened and shut the door getting in and out with the AC on full blast it finally ended up condensing in the player.  I wiped off the CD, but it in, and it worked.  I'm with the other guys, try a cleaning.

LOL

anyways, I think it's just a defective CD Player...seems like we've all had some kind of problems with them at one time or another.  If it's still under warranty why not take it back and have them replace it?  If not, then this is a good reason to go out and get an aftermarket one :D

Havent talked to him since. emailed him and told him to clean it.  if that doesnt fix it i would just chuck it and get a new one.  some things arent worth the hassle to me...
