Hvac Acuators - All The Same?

I've got a 2005 Tahoe where the AC is stuck pushing air out the defrost vents. I've tried the recalibration deal several times and it still comes out the defrost. I know the actuator that controls this is one of 5 or 6, and is located under the drivers dash. I guess I will change it out, but I'm trying to figure out if the actuators are all the same, or are they different?

No, they are different. Some of them don't have the potentiometer inside. They have the same plug, but less wires to them. As long as you get one that has the potentiometer you should be good.

My 04 Silverado didn't have any defrost or floor vents last year.

 

I took the cover off and inspected close to firewall. There were two plastic gears that moved that actually changed the HVAC mode options. It looked like mine had either stripped some of the gears or jumped off track. I moved the gears around and now have floor/defrost when the mode selector is at defrost... better than before... no defrost in the winter sucks.

 

The entire HVAC system in these trucks is complete garbage. The blend door actuator on my drivers side is out so it's either all heat or cold depending on the mood it's in. What I did was just let it go all the way to cold and unplug the actuator... this worked for the summer, but it will be more trick in the winter.
