Hey gang!! New here and have a few quick questions. I am in the market for a new (used) truck and came across this one and thought i would post the link and see if the price is about right. I just sold my 2001 toyota 4runner becasue I need a truck and something 4wd and liked the looks of this one.

Do ya'll think that price is about right? I'm going to look at it after work and wanted to check here and see if there are some common problems with certain things I need to check on it tonight. Thanks for any help and if I get it, I hope to learn a lot of stuff on here!!! Thanks!

Don't know how cold it gets in Arkansas this time of year. If I was you I would make sure you can listen to the motor on a COLD start. Listen for knocks ticks etc for about a minute or more. I recently bought a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado with the same mileage as yours. I listened to the motor,and it sounded ok at the time. But it was warm and there was a lot of traffic noise happening. Now when I start the motor cold there are some weird noises coming from the motor! I am hoping its piston slap, but I am starting to get scared now cause it seems to be getting worse! Do a search for pistonslap.com. Damn I wish like hell I hadn't been so hungover when i went to buy the vehicle! Now I know why they had the truck parked near the sales door.That way they could keep the motor warm.

Price seems a bit high, but I'm sure you could talk them down to something reasonable (around here, the truck would probably go for about 8k).

 

Definitely check the frame for rust, and since it doesn't have the 4th door on the drivers side, definitely check the drivers side cab corner/rocker panel for rot. Mine had it, and I've seen a bunch of other trucks with the same issue.

looks like it has been taken care of for sure. The price might reflect the leather, and if the underside is as clean as the topside. The door jam on the passanger side looks very clean. I dont know about down there but up here in MI that would be a tell tale sign of a one owner that was parked inside when not in use. Our road commission loves the salt.

The truck does look like its in good shape from what i can see anyway. I agree with some of the others that the price might be bit high. I was looking for a truck for 3 mos before i finally found one a couple of weeks ago. I found a 02 GMC 1500HD 4x4 CC for $7,000. The truck has a few more miles than that one but it was a one owner and exceptionally clean so i bought it. The deal i had is kinda rare so i wouldnt base buying one on my experience but they can be found for cheaper than $9,000. I'm not sure how you're buying but i paid cash and 70 $100 bills looks good to anyone in a bind.

I agree with others,The price seems "a little" high.

Check the drivers-side cab-corner/quarter panel for rust as mentioned before also.

And one last thing,If you do get it,It has three open recalls that have never been done and need performed,They are...

      This is a 1/2 ton thing ONLY.  All HDs 2020-2026 have the two speed transfer case, with Autotrac as an option.     1/2 tons 2019-2026, regular 4x4s come with a single speed case (no 4LO!), and trucks with Z71 ordered, or all Trail Boss trucks come with the 2 speed case.  2 speed case is also an option on WT, and is also standard on High Country.

      2013 5.3 still to this day calls for the PF48 filter.  Which as a 15psi bypass pressure.     There is a TSB, 17-NA-157 that talks about the PF-63 and PF-64 filters which have a higher bypass rating of 22psi.    TSB HERE - temp.xml   "Beginning in 2012, the oil pumps began to regulate main gallery feedback instead of pump out pressure. This means that the oil pump now does not begin to regulate until pressure is built up to the main gallery. This change reduces the amount of time it takes to provide oil to the engine bearing and lifters during extreme cold start conditions.  Main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are present on the following engine families which use Spin-on oil filters: Small Gas Engine (SGE), Large Gas Engine (LGE), High Feature (HFV6) Gen2 and Small Block Gen5 gasoline engines. These engines with the main gallery feedback oil pump control systems are factory built with an ACDelco® oil filters"   It also calls out what engines use those filters.  The gen 4 small blocks were not on that list (LMG, LC9, L9H, L92, L94, L20, L96).  Gen 5 small blocks use the higher pressure filter.          That all said...   Your 7045 Napa filter is the PF63 equivalent, with 22psi bypass.  You are already using the higher bypass pressure filter.  You CAN keep using it, you don't technically have to use it though.

      Do you know WHY the filter relief setting was increased to 22 psig?    When the new system goes into the second stage the pump volume ramps up considerably. It was found that the 15 psi filter bypass setting put the filter in bypass on a warm engine when the second stage was activated. Raising the filter bypass setting forced the filter to do what it designed to do. Filter. Preventing debris from circulating during high load, high rpm operation.    So next question is how did GM find this out? VLOM/lifter failures and a deep dive by Melling Corp.    Last question. Is it required? Look at it like this; a motor may be equipped with a rev limiter. But it only works if the set point in reached. That 22 psig setting only matters if the pressure differential across the filter media exceeds 15 psig during normal warm operation. Second stage kicks in around 3000-3500 rpm.    I can't answer your question because I don't know you and how you use the truck. But I think there is enough information here to let you decide for yourself. 😉

      Probably not their first rodeo, so it should go as planned most likely.  Typically the service manager or tech doing the swap will put some seat time to shake it down after they get it all put back together.  We usually put 50-100mi before we hand them back so if something happens, its not after you get it.  A coolant leaks, oil leaks, a ground left off or loose, vibration, etc.     The new engines so far have been good?  There's been a couple that have popped out there again (the replacement engine) but most have been okay.
