Paper Filter For The Gm Performance Intake

Recommended Posts

First of all, I would like to say hi, I'm new, and I just bought a 2006 Silverado CCSB Z71, tow package, etc...

Tonight I dug under the hood to see what size air filter I needed to replace the Spectre cheapo filter that is on it now. I don't want a K&n filter. I really don't want one of the dry washable filters either, unless there is no other option. I really just want a filter that I can replace.

Are there any OEM style paper cone filters with a 4" inlet that would fit in/on the GM performance Intake? As long as it has a lip that I can clamp on and isn't tiny it should be good to go right? I went to Advance and looked through their stock of filters, but came up empty.

Thanks,

Hey there, welcome to the forum.

I went though the same debate a few years ago when I owned a 2006 Canyon and actually worked at a GMC dealership so got things for a very good price.

Here is the low down on paper filters. The majority of filters cost about $20.00 a pop from a dealership, maybe less from other part suppliers. A K&N filter or Airaid, or any of the aftermarket ones cost about $50 - $75.00 for the filter only which will fit into the stock location. The recommendation from most car companies is to replace the air filter, depending on driving habits, every second oil change and sometimes every oil change.

Pretty simple math involved here, spend several hundred over the life of the vehicle to replace the cheap filter or spend less than $100.00 for a filter that will last the life of the vehicle.

Up to you....
