Fender Bender?

Yesterday, going to my post office, there wasn't any parking. So I parked in the gas station directly across from it.

Getting back in the truck, backing up at the same time, a guy in the PO was doing the same thing.

We didn't see each other, I was watching the traffic to my right, and so was he.

Our rear ends meet each other I was going about 2-3 mph, and he may have been going a little faster.

BOOM! My bumper pushed in his entire hatch door, and shattered the window.

My bumper got bent, with the left side just getting pushed into the left rear quarter panel, but not bending it.

But the tailgate rubs on it now, when opening.

My question is: I assume that because the bumper is bent, and pushed in, the supports from the truck frame to the bumper are also bent, but this couldn't have bent the chassis main rails at this speed?

An insurance adjuster is coming to inspect it on tuesday.

The truck is a 2004 Silverado 2500HD, ext. cab, long bed.

I just recently had some damage done to my truck at about the same speed. I couldn't believe how much damage was done. There shouldnt be any frame damage. Talking to the guy at the body shop, he said vehicles are made to crumble like a house of cards. Your body is like a giant pillow absorbing the pressure so you dont get as hurt and it doesnt absorb into the frame.

Replace the bumper with a piece of I beam. Weld that right to the frame and you'll never have a flimsy bumper issue again.

But you'll probably be sued if your ever in an accident, where there is personal injury. The lawyers will love you...$$$$$$$.

hockey, I like the way the truck looks stock, but in the future, I'm going to put a tow bar /with ball in the receiver. If I get hit the same way again, the tow hitch should stop the bumper from geting hit

I'll report back Tuesday after the insurance adjuster gives me the estimate.

Ill bet ya that ur frame isnt bent.... you might half to just repalce a couple brackets and get a new bumper.... the aftermarket ones for these trucks fit pretty well and come with alll new brackets and pads for the new bumper for roughly 400$ might be a lil more... knowing this because i work at a body shop.

and if the bottom part of your bed is hurt at all on either side you could just ask the shop that you take it to about doing a blend on the body line might save ya some $$$$$$ so you dont half to get the whole bedside repainted
