What do you think about JL Audio speakers?

Thanks for your opinions about what direction I should go with a new car stereo.

What do folks think about JL Audio component speakers?  I'm thinking of XR 650csi in the front and TR 400cxi in the rear (2002 ext cab).  To power them, a Rockford Fossgate Punch 300x.  I'll be keeping the stock head unit.  Any opinions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

i havent really listened to them much. but a lot of people seem to like them. JL seems to be a pretty good with their speakers.

I think you will find that if you install new componets in the front along with an amp that you won't even need rear speakers. I have Infinities in the front running off my amp and my stock rears running off my stock head unit. It sounds great but I also have the JL stealthbox wich adds great bass :D I'm debating on losing my rears all together. :sideways:

it'll sound awful if you just replace the front and not the rear.. the rear handles all the sound that will bounce off the back walls and without it there will be a sound void..

especially when you listen to busic with a big band sound there will be nothing to handle the rear channel that the cd puts out.

JL is known for making good, quality components.  Sound is a matter of preference.  JL's tend to have a more "mellow" sound than say MB Quart.

The back seat speakers are for rear fill. CDs are recorded in stereo that means two channels. In your truck the back speakers are playing exactly what the front speakers are playing. When you go to a concert do they have speakers behind you? The answer is no they are all up front.  Car manufactures only put speakers in the rear to make you think you are getting more and to make the stock system sound louder.  If you amplify your front speakers and add a good set of aftermarket componets you will see what I mean. Music just sounds better when it comes from infront of you. (This does not apply to multimedia systems which uses more then two speakers hence not recorded in stereo in this case you would have to add a center channel.)  I am running my rear speakers off my factory head unit right now for a little rear fill but I am debating on losing them all together. All Radio and 98% of CDS are recorded in stereo (two speakers). Trust me my truck doesn't sound void from the front it sounds absolutly awsome (Trucks do not have huge cabin space its not like it is a strech limo). If I would opt to change out the factory headunit it would even sound better.

Another benefit to rear speakers is to cloak the drop in response between drivers caused by the front component sets crossover.

Thats a good point Mark.

Although i havnt measured any frequencies, im sure they do fill in some frequencies to a small degree.

If your ever gonna do DVD, or DTS music, keep your rear for sure.

JL Audio makes great products.  Amps, subs, and speakers.  The XR650CS is one of the best sets I've heard for the money.  If I had to buy a component set again, I'm sure that is what I would buy.  I highly reccomend them.

Rear speakers are a waste of money in my opinion.  Unless you have rear passengers and want them to enjoy the music more.  With a good set of components up front (like the JL's)  rear speakers will only hurt how it sounds.
