Sound Deading Material

I have had my new 09 for about a month now, and while I am pretty satisfied with my truck, it rattles like a can compared to my 07 GMT-900....I have rattles from behind the door panel which are plastic/rubbing related, and a piece in my sunroof rattles, and also the XM Box in the Dash it sounds like....anyway I know how they all come apart so I'm not even going to waste the time to take it in for warranty work....

My solution is to do some sound deading like I have done in the past on my 2001 and 2004 Trucks...I usually got Part No. 268-010 from Parts Express which was an Asphalt Based Peel and Stick Sound Deading Product....however now they dont' have this anymore and they suggest a PN 268-035 which is a Vinyl Based Product...its a little less thick. Does anyone have experience with this product? If not this product, does anyone have any other experience with a comparable product that they would recommend?

I just put some Fatmat www.fatmat.com, in the doors, back wall and floor of my '04. It made a big difference. I haven't used any other sound deadener so I can't tell you how it compares to the competition, but it worked for me.

If you have rattles around panels. I have had luck using cardboard. If you pull of and panel that has metal clips, remove the clip from the panel and fold a thin piece of cardboard over where the clip was and put the clip back on. It will sit nice and tight in there after its installed.

just a thought, has worked for me.

I read on a Corvette forum that some guy used foil Duct insulation from Home Depot with good results. I may try that when spring comes.

Sound deadening or insulating materials will not stop or reduce the rattles inside the cab. If anything, rattles from interior parts will seem louder after insulating.

Still, sound control materials are always a good thing. Stay away from any asphalt based materials. They will emit smells like a paving crew, whenever it gets hot. They can also sag and run and eventually get hard and loose some of their sound deadening qualities.

There are a lot of different brands out there now. Many of them are asphalt based. The good ones are usually a butyl based (rubber). One of the big names is Dynamat. They make both butyl and asphalt types. They butyl stuff fromt them is about $200 for 35 sq/ft. There is another I ran across called B-Quiet Ultimate that is butyl and runs about $120 for 50 sq/ft.

BTW, The duct foil type insulators from Home D and Lowes have an asphalt material in them.

I have used the vinyl from Parts-Express with good success. THere are better solutions out there but for cost/value, this stuff works good.

Hush mat is also another good quality butyl based matting.

It comes in a box in 12"X12" tiles...also in rolls of I think 24"X36" It is used almost exclusively by the guys on Powerblock...and is way cheaper than Dynamat...and comparable to B-Quiet ultimate.

Try looking on E-bay though...sometimes you can get it really Cheap on there.
