S10 Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal

Recommended Posts

Posted

2001 S10 4.3L 4WD.

I have the transmission out to replace the clutch slave cylinder and am replacing the clutch and flywheel (worn teeth) at the same time. Amazingly the original clutch is only half worn at 235K miles!

I also bought a rear crank seal expecting to see some oil leakage there but it is perfectly dry. Now the dilemma. I don't have the GM seal installer tool to press a new one in, I will have to carefully tap it into place. Should I chance replacing the seal and hoping it won't leak? or should I leave well alone? I don't want to have to remove the transmission again it is a real PITA. What is the history of these seals, are they prone to leakage?

Should I replace it or not?

Opinions wanted!

Thanks.
