You are going to have a shop do the work right?

Changing gears needs to be done by a professional. Doing the work requires special tools.

Chances are, if you don't know what gears will work then you probably don't have the ability to change them yourself.

I would recommend asking your local mechanic what gears to get, or let them take care of everything.

If you still want to order the gears you need an 8.5" ring and pinion for the rear and an 8.25" for the front. Do you have a preference in brand?

He won't need front ones Matt,The trucks a 2wd.

oh is that what he meant by "back wheel"? :smash: My eyes skimmed right over that, i didn't even notice since I was looking for "2wd".

Well.....Don't feel bad,I didn't notice the "back wheel" either,What gave it away for me was the 5th & 6th digit of the VIN..."C1" which denotes 2wd 1/2-ton.

I agree. It's one thing to buy the correct ring and pinion set in the ratio you want, but the installation must be done by someone with the experience and proper tools to do the work. An experienced mechanic will need about two hours to do the work with the truck raised up on a lift.

Yo didn't mention what country you live in, but finding a mechanic with experience in rear-wheel drive vehicles (not to mention experience in differential service) will be very important

Once you find the proper ring and pinion for your truck, Summit Racing would be a good place to order as they will ship to other countries.

Well I'll be even scarier then :lurk:

The VIN he provided is for an '07,Look at the 10th digit,Its a 7 which denotes an '07 model-year vehicle (It would a 6 for an '06)

Also I can tell you that its an '07 "Classic" GMT800 truck by the 12th digit being a 1,If it was a "new-body style" GMT900 truck the 12th digit would be a 5
