Low Humming From Center To Back

Recommended Posts

Drove the truck this morning and have a hum that sounds like mudder tires. Sound is coming from the center to rear. I also noticed the truck is downshifting a little hard. I read the other posts and their sounds were coming from the front. Tried shifting tires around to see if that was the the issue and it did not change. The sound increases with speed and goes away at about 5 MPH. There is no vibration. I do need to replace the center support bearing. The rubber has deteriorated. But this has been this way for a little while. I also did the rear pinion about 2 months ago and noticed it is leaking again. Any ideas?

I would start checking U joints. That was about the noise I heard when mine started to go.

Would'nt I get some sort of vibration? In my experience the vibration started before the noise any time I had a U-Joint going bad. I appreciate your response.

OK. For anyone who is interested, I replaced the center support bearing and all u-joints and this was not the source of the noise. I believe now it could be the rear pinion bearing. I will be tackling that shortly. I will keep you all informed.
