Bed To Cab Alignment

Painfree

I recently bought a 2006 Silverado 1500 Z71. I noticed that there was about a half inch difference between the right and left sides of the cab as it lined up with the bed. This also showed up as a minor difference between the bumper on either side.

I took the truck to two body shops. Neither saw any body damage. One felt that it was within "tolerance" and the other one agreed to attempt to slide the bed over some to correct the problem. After doing so, the bed is much better but is still out of alignment a small amount (perhaps 1/8 - 1/4 inch). Is this a common problem? Is there a "tolerance" for this type of issue?

I know I'm being picky. Thanks for your comments.

Yeah...thats pretty pickey...but a good eye.

Could be that the original owner hauled something and the motion of it caused the box to move.

Thank you for your reply, Aiden.

If the original owner had hauled something that would cause the box to move, wouldn't the body shop be able to correct that when they loosened the bolts and moved the bed? Perhaps not.

I've also read about the "GM Lean" in the forum. Am I seeing this lean.....just at a different vantage/ angle?

Depends on how much you paid the shop....you get what you pay for right.
