Battery For Audio System In Winter Season?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have a Silverado 2009 with the factory battery installed. I want to change it since I'm changing my audio system. I will add a 4 channels amp (500W) and a mono amp (300W) for the subwoofer. I already have a 145amp alternator in the truck which will be perfect. So what battery brand and A/h range do you recommand? Is it needed to really go to a special brand or just take what is available in the store? I believe 150A/h + could be a nice choice and a 4 F capacitor just in case for fluctuations.

Interstate battery's are pretty good, As so the yellow top. There is another one but I cant think of the name, It is not shaped like a normal battery. But anyways those will work well.

what are your recommendation on A/h battery rating for 2 amps (300W + 500W)? I want to use my audio system at 50% while the truck is off. My alternator is rated at 145A so it's not a problem to recharge the battery after the truck has started...

thanks,

You probably won't need a 2 battery set up, but getting a good capacitor well definitely help out your audio system; since you'll be runnin a 500 and 300 watt amp....

it cost a little bit more at first, but a dual battery setup would work best. You dont really want to be discharging and recharging your battery too much so a deep cycle is good for that. But if you have 2 batteries you can install a battery isolator and then you wont have to worry about ever draining your primary battery.

also, if you go ahead with the 2 battery set up make sure you fuse the connection between the batteries at both ends, this protects the power wire.

the batteries should also be the same model, amperage, and they should be the same age (within a few months)
