Dee Zee Ez Down Tailgate Damper.

I did a search and read a few threads about this, but I'm curious which one I need for my truck. On the Dee zee website it looks like they only list 99-07, I find it hard to belive it will also fit the NNBS's. Autoanything has them for like 48$ shipped so I want to order one soon.

To be clear this is the damper that lets the tailgate lower slowly, alot of people in the other threads confused this with the GM option tailgate assist. Pic below shows product.

I know I had to wait a couple weeks for mine. Check out other vendors or maybe direct from Dee Zee. I put mine on cause wife would just drop the tailgate and it didn't want broken cables. It's kind of a pain if you need to remove the tailgate but only alittle.

I got mine for Christmas so I'm not sure about the details, but I gave the AutoAnything link to my wife to distribute. Installs in less than 15 minutes and works well. The worst part is trying to unlearn the reflex to get your hand under the tailgate to brace it. :uhoh:

Direct is a little pricey, but the shipping will probably be faster. I got one and love it, mbaee is right about the whole reflex thing. :uhoh:

Dee Zee Part # DZ43101 is for NNBS, not sure if it is the same for NBS.

I like my heavy tailgate. It reminds me of why I bought a GMC.

This is not really meant to make it easier to lift, it's so it won't smack down when you open it.

I dont think it will work with the stainless straps. I got my cousin the straps for christmas and before I gave them to him I tried to make one fit on mine with the damper and it wouldnt fit right. :uhoh:

Thanks, at least now I know without buying the damper and having to return it after finding out it won't work.

I was also looking at the Visc-O-Matic tailgate assist which mounts only to the tailgate instead of also to the bedside and works along with the tailgate's torsion bar design, but it looks like it would also interfere with the stainless straps when closing the tailgate. What would be helpful is a fully internal damper, which looks like could be done using the idea behind the Visc-O-Matic, although it'd probably make the install more difficult.

I guess as it stands now I'll just have to choose between the stainless straps or a damper.

Found this one from EZDown last year. The Chevy/GMC version are at the bottom of the page. Looks like they have them for both GMT800 and 900 trucks. Little more expensive on this website but it looks stronger than the DeeZee one.

Hey Matt, I've gotten so use to having it on mine, I forget that other people don't have it, and I find myself letting a few tailgates just drop open. Needless to say I got some looks....All I can say is sorry...

same here. this is one of the nicest cheap mods I've done to my truck. I highly recommend the EZdown product, got mine on Ebay for like $30 a year or so ago
