Steering Shaft Issues?

I was trying to find out what the symptoms are of the infamous bad steering shafts in the silverados. I have clunking feeling in my front end that i can feel through the steering wheel. I know my pitman arm is a little worn but not severe and i already replaced the whole idler arm assembly and the rest of the front end is tight so was thinking maybe the steering shaft as ive heard alot about them on here. Plus it seems worse when going slow on say a dirt road or even a fairly smooth road for that matter especially when turning the wheel hard over uneven ground but only notice at say slow speeds so its kinda hard to explain. So i was wondering what to check for and how to address the problem if it is the culprit. Thanks guys

Is it the shaft inbetween the gearbox and the firewall? The one thats connected by a bolt in the middle of the shaft? I tried wiggling it and there doesnt seem to be much play so im thinking maybe its loose when turning it? Not sure. Everything seems tight by hand. Sorry if this seems dumb.

no ,it goes thru the fire wall,bolt inside,bolt outside ,remove the boot if ya want (3 spinner nuts)

 

some are a pain with movable pedels,

 

dealer will charge .5 hr max(not sure if there is a flat rate in the book)

 

an experieneced tech will take 10 minites

Could this also be found in a 2005 Yukon? There seems to be a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel, especially at slower speeds.
