serial44 Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I just bought a 08 Silverado LT CC Z-71 and would like to know/hear about some popular aftermarket upgrades members have used in their trucks. I considered looking for the nav unit (I have singe disc cd no bose) that my friend has in his LTZ Suburban or even amping stock head unit and swapping out OEM speakers. I have a self-powered infinity 8 in sub from my old compact which I would like to use. I would also like to stay conservative in price... just get rid of distortion and get some more sound. Any ideas, suggestions, or links would be appreciated ! Thanks.
mfennema Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Lots of suggestions on this forum. Try using the search function in the upper right hand corner and you'll find more pages than you'll want to read. Enjoy!!! And welcome to the forum
serial44 Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 Believe me I have already read a bunch. Was just hoping someone with a similar setup would help me with what they tried without reading post after post for hours. I already do it anyways so thanks!
00_Extended Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I know what you mean about searching other posts.......I'll never figure out why people post that "search button" thing......hell you could do that with every post in this place after awhile. Anyhow I have the stock head unit with an AMP connected to a JL Audio stealth box that fits bewteen the front seats and 600 watt mono amp. It looks like it belongs there and the center console fold down is still there. I really love the sound and I still have the stock speakers. When those get changed out and an amp on some aftermarket speakers it's going to sound great. Mine is black http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_stealth...php?fit_id=1586
serial44 Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Thanks so much for your feedback. I will most def. look into your set up. You have any plans to go to a nav upgrade in dash with a back up camera or anything like that? If you take pics of your upgrades please post so I can check it out.
00_Extended Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 I have looked at some aftermarket head units and they are too expensive as are the factory Nav units. If i was going to spend the money the extra $300 or so I think is well spent going with the factory nav unit. I have read that aftermarket units do not fit very well. I also spoke to stero place and the owner told me the stock stuff looks great in the dash as it should and the aftermarket stuff looks like it was an afterthought. My plans are to use this part when i go with an AMP for the trucks other speakers http://pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?P...p;CategoryID=28 This unit will allow me to have the sub AMP and the speakers on the other AMP. They also sell a unit that allows you to go with sirus radio and bail the XM. I have a lifetime sub to sirus and adding my truck will only cost me $6.00 per month or i can buy alife time for $300.00 and call it done. Pays for it's self in about 50 months. I also like this little piece http://pac-audio.com/productDetails.aspx?P...p;CategoryID=36

I have front bench so might not work...I think my only option would be under back seats, so I want to go small and removable with my sub set up. I don't care about bass as much as when I was 20 and my lil infinity will give me plenty and I don't need to buy anything to power it. I think I will keep my stock head and amp to some component aftermarket speakers... Brett
