95 Gmc Sierra Transmission Options ?

Hi ! I have a 95 GMC Sierra 2wd with the 5.7 and the weak 4L60E transmission. Do I have any other options as far as putting a stronger tranny in my truck such as the 700R or something else. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dan

700 r4 is exact same as a 4l60E except it is NOT computor controlled.

 

put a shift kit in it and a vette servo and don't pull a 2 story building and you'll be fine ,

 

changing the tranny to a different 1 is/will be a large PITA ,

I have seen descriptions of what is required to get a 4L80E into a 96-99 behind a 5.7 Vortec that originally had a 4L60E... and in my opinion it is a lot more work and modifications that I would be willing to do..

 

.. others no doubt will disagree, but the fact is.... it is not a simple remove and replace operation..

 

.. in addition to that... you have a 1995, which has a number of one-year only transmission parts and mechanisms that preclude you from even swapping another 4L60E from any other year.

If you can find a performance tranny guy, they will also generally build up the trans with a hardened sun shell, an extra clutch disk and upgrade your torque converter to a fully brazed unit. These are a small cost while he is in there and help if you tow.
