Brake Pulsating When Stopping -- 02 Silverado 1500

greetings all!

brother in law brought over his 2002 silverado 1500 extended cab because he said his breaks were grabbing. upon driving it felt simply like the rotors were warped or the brakes grabbing and releasing quickly at low speeds, kind of like the abs was kicking in.

his pads had plenty of life left on them with the exception of the rears. we had the front rotors turned to rule them out but the pulsating continued. replaced the driver's side hub assembly as well as there was too much play in all directions.

to describe the pulsating: feels like the brakes lock-release-lock-release over and over until finally coming to a stop. we bled the brakes to remove all the old fluid as a precaution also.

any suggestions? thanks in advance....

anyway to diagnose which wheel? is there measurements that can be taken to determine this? i know these abs sensors are expensive so i would hate to throw money away when only one is bad. thanks for the reply!

My 08 Silverado does this also. The rear drums are my issue I believe, as is the case on your buddys truck I suspect. You said the rear brakes were worn down, I would do a brake job on the rear, assuming you have rotors in the rear, and do a pad and rotor replacement. I have had this 08 in 6 times for brakes, and still no dice. I am trying to save up to do a brake job in the rear, maybe front and rear at the same time. Just my recommendation.

Any chance the ABS light was on?????? Sounds kinda like your abs is pulsating. These trucks have a problem with low speed abs activation.

Edgewise pull the abs fuse under the hood and drive on same place on the road and re-drive it.

I can't tell from your post...did you replace the front pads with new ones or reuse the old one......makes a difference coming from warped rotors. Also, did you bleed the calipers?

I have a 79 Corvette with a dual piston front caliper...pulsating drove me nuts until I replaced the calipers...apparently, one of the pistons was partially hung up causing the issue....
