Leveling Kit

First time here, so go easy.

would like to put a 2" leveling kit on my 2wd '04 silverado.

i've heard that putting one on will cause the ball joints to wear down faster. Is this true and are there other negatives about doing it?

I don't think you can do it on your '04 because the suspension is different than the new body style trucks.

Can't you just crank up the torsion bars?

"leveling kits" for 4wd GMT800s are just cranking the torsion bars.

2wd GMT800s are coil sprung and use coil spacers.

To answer the OP's question: All leveling kits will affect balljoints (upper and lower), Steering components (inner/outter tie rods, center links/steering racks, etc), and CV axles (if 4wd). Generally, as long as you don't go over 2" then excessive wear doesn't cause many issues. So if you keep it around 1.5-2" you won't have much to worry about. Will the parts last as long as they would without the leveling kit? NO. But they also shouldn't be failing constantly.
