What Handheld Programmer?

I would like to get a tune form my 07 Max, I want to get a handheld so I can change

the program for towing (travel trailer) and different octanes.

From what I have read the real pcm exchanges are actually better but I want

the versatility to change things myself and to be able to go back to factory

if I need to take it in for warranty work. My buddy had one for his Ford that works

great.

What kind would you guys recommend

I'm selling my Diablo shortly for a Blackbear tune. It works awesome, but I want the TCM programmed.

With it dialed in (LTFT's) the power band is stronger and smoother, also the severe throttle delay is almost completely gone. I highly recommend it.

Comes with the cables too.

A lot of members use Diablo Predator with good results. I use a Hypertec, and I'm very happy with it. I tow a 29ft travel trailer, so I changed my shift points, shift firmness, top speed, and rpm's. You can also change your speedo for tire sizes, and regular or premium gas. You can also use your computer to upgrade for the latest tunes. They have a 30 day full refund if you are not happy with the Hypertec.

I had a diablo that fortunately came with a 30 return policy....good thing as I did not see any improvement from it. For the same money, I got a Blackbear tune and it made an immediate difference in performance and mpg....

I use a Superchips Flashpaq, that I'm very Happy with. I like having the ability within minutes to go from a stock, to a performance tune, to a mileage tun,; to a towing tune, etc...

I have only used their 91 Octane peformance tune and their mileage tune with individual settings also. There is also a towing tune, but since I'm not towing I'm not needing to use that tune.

So far I'm very happy with my Superchips Flashpaq. If I was needing a permanent performance tune, I would get a Custom Black Bear tune, but I like being able to switch from mileage tune, to a peformance tune and towing tune if I ever needed to.

I use the SuperChips Cortex and have been happy with it so far. I've used the 87 octane performance, 87 octane mileage, 91 octane performance and the 91 octane towing. All have been good. The mileage in 91 octane towing (while towing) was better than the 87 octane performance while not towing and better than stock while towing. I did the math and it was actually cheaper to buy Premium gas for more money because I picked up more MPG.

I too wanted the flexibility of changing it myself and being able to change the tire size at will is really nice because not all 30" tires are actually 30" and I might want bigger one's in the future.

I am very happy with my Edge CS, but mine is a 6.0 gas. I would check Diesel threads/forums or make sure people advising you have a Duramax.

Heres a handheld tuner for the duramax diesel, it basically has the same feature set of the Superchips flashpaq but it's a different company and its made for the Duramax

Oops! I'm sorry, I totally missed the Duramax part. In that case you've gotta go with the unit from www.trucktransturbo.com

I know these guys and nobody knows more about diesels than these guys. Their unit is about $520 and is supposed to ROCK.

You can call and ask for Chuck, the number is 303-867-1000

They are in Denver and you will never find a better or more honest shop.

Then I will stick to my recommendation for the SuperChips. But if you ever need a tranny rebuilt, those guys do great gas truck trannies too.

I just traded in my 07 Vmax, and I had the superchips flashpaq for it. I was quite happy with it. The best thing is you can change setting all the time its just plug and play which is what i wanted.
