02 2500 8.1 W/allison

I have a 02 2500HD, 8.1, with the Allison. Earlier today the shift indicator lights were not working properly. It would only show on the dash if I was in R, 3, or 1. Nothing for park, N, D, and 2nd. The door lock would not work when the truck was put into P, like they do. An hour later I drove the truck and all of that is working fine now. But I now have a "service engine" light on and it seems the truck is will not go into drive. Seems to be stuck in 3rd. When I shift between Park and 3rd it shifts really hard. Any suggestions?

I believe the dash lights were caused by a fuse. Wiggled it around and lights were flashing off and on. Bent the prongs in, re-installed fuse and they work fine. Still have the SES light on and only foward gear seems to be 3rd.

The only main issue I remember with the 8.1 motors is the crank position sensor would go bad and cause problems. From what I heard one day it would be good, then the truck would just fall on its face. It would also make the truck drive funky.

The nuetral park safety switch on the side of the transmission is, more than likely your problem. Replace it.
