09 Silverado 2500 Wt Radio Issue

Hello, Im new to the site and have been reading for the past couple days and have gotten alot of information but I am still looking for some answers. If anyone could help that would be great.

I have a 09 2500 with a basic run of the mill radio, no onstar in the truck, no cd player, no xm, no aux ports. I was just given a sony deck and would like to put it in the truck to play cd's and use my ipod. Where its my work truck I dont want to put any money into it. I have a wiring list for the truck and the radio. Now here is the issue. I have been told that this can not be done with out a $150 part. I have also been told the if I do it with out the part the ruck will not run right, not be able to get it inspected, might burn up the wiring, etc. I have heard it all. Anyone Know the truth to this.

well decided to go ahead a make the swap out. I put in the new radio connected the speakers, power and relay for the RAP. I also hooked up a sony xa-300 so I could plug my computer into the radio and listen to streaming audio, and while waiting on contractors be able to watch movies with good sound. It all works great, no problems, Knock on wood.

So did you do it without buying the data bus? I haven't heard many good stories about doing it without.

No data bus, Works great.....What issues have you heard
