Finally '09 6.0 Exhuast The Right Way

There have been a lot of threads about the '07+ GMT900 2500HD with the 6.0, and the lack of available exhaust.

Guys have done mufflers, only to find the dreaded drone that this engine produces in the exhaust.

I went custom finally, after not getting any results from my beloved Borla, Magnaflow, Banks, or anybody else for that matter.

I wanted dual tail pipe, but the short Crew Cab has too much going on at the rear axle, and my need for air bag installation negates the possibility. I have been down this road before with dual pipes and air bags.

 

I went with a Magnaflow resonator, Magnaflow muffler, and custom mandrel bent 3" T304 stainless pipe exiting out a double wall 4" tip.

 

It sounds amazing, and has NO DRONE WHATSOEVER!

It wudn't cheap boys, but that's the way it is!

The 6.0 / 6.2 have incredible amounts of resonance (drone) as mentioned. It's the best way to eliminate it when you are running large diameter piping and a straight through muffler.

 

Shatterz: I am going to try and get one this weekend. I just picked it up from the muffler shop this afternoon.

The other cool thing was how high he tucked it above the frame rail and over the crossmember. Those of you with these trucks know how massive the stock muffler is, and how far below the bottom flange of the framerail it all hangs. Very pleased with that, too.

That looks great! Do you think the magna flow resonator would reduce drone with my Flowmaster or would I bneed to replace muffler also? Is the maganaflow resonaor unique or are would any quality resonator be as effective? I currently have a single in / single out 3" 50 series SUV with 6.0 gas. I love the sound, but not crazy about the drone.

Why did you go with a 3 inch pipe verse a 3.5 or 4 inch? The dual stock pipe is 3in each then in goes into the muffler then comes out as a 3.5 inch single pipe?

The 07+ down pipes go to 3.5" pipe, to a flange. 3.5" pipe into the muffler.

 

3.5" pipes into a straight through performance muffler is a droning beast with a 6.0

 

You don't need the 3.5" pipe with a straight through muffler for adequate flow.

 

With the stock, restrictive muffler, it is a must.

suhweet!! Keep waiting for Corsa to come up with something but no luck so far...I'd like to get rid of that water heater under the truck bed but don't want the dreaded drone with anything else that seemed to be available (what little there is!)
