Loose Baffle In Muffler!

Recommended Posts

The baffle has come loose and rattles inside the stock muffler on my 2004 Chevy 2500HD.

The truck has about 54,000 miles on it, and I have the extended GMPP warranty for it.

Is this covered under the GMPP?

I had the same problem with my 05. I could not find a stock style replacement so I had a magnaflow installed and now its too loud lol. So If anyone has a stock take off they would like to sell or trade that would be great. I have a 100,000 mile warranty not a gm though and they would not replace it.

If you took out the extended i would definately take it into the dealer... worst they can say is no. If they do say no get a aftermarket like magnaflow or flowmaster.... It will give the truck the sound it deserves and should have from factory!

Thanks for the reply guys, but does anyone here, maybe that works for a GM dealer know if this is covered?

If not I have the stock pipe from my 04. You can have it if you really want it and want to pick it up or pay for shipping.

My dealer said "NO"...So I put in a Flo-Pro 2506 Big Oval.

I called Chevy direct and the rep I spoke to seems to feel that the 80,000/8 year emissions warrenty will cover it.

The truck is 6 years old with only 54,000 on it!

He called the dealer and spoke to the service manager.

I set up an appointment tuesday morning to have them check it out.

Wish me luck!

I took my truck in for a crack in the intermediate pipe right at the cat. That is right after the cat. They said unless it sets off the check engine light, no go. It is doing it's job to manage the emissions and is only making noise. Not an emission problem, therefore no warrranty. What a load of BS. Anyways good luck. By the way they said the same thing about the baffle in my muffler.

This is what they found this morning!

The service advisior tells me there is a heat shield over the muffler, and is held up by 2 straps that broke, that is the rattle noise, not the muffler!

They ordered these "special straps" overnite, and I'm going back tomorrow morning to put them in.

If this is the case it will be a miracle, will report back when I get back.

I'm here now at the dealer, waiting to get the truck in the shop.

I hope this is the fix, the repair total under a $100bucks, alot better then $1300!

That did the trick! It was 3 straps, and the grand total was $66 bucks, and they even washed the truck!

This is some classy Chevy/Cadilac dealership!

They have 2 waiting rooms with wide screen tv's on the wall, a seperate home theater room, playing a movie with surround sound, and free flavored coffee with donuts etc!

Oh, forgot, free high speed WiFi!

I've never seen anything like this before, and will go back in the future.

I decided to to try them after my Chevy dealer went out of business.

Where is this dealer at? Sounds like a winner.

Hey tvrsq51, sorry but you will have to drive about 3,000 miles to upstate New York to find this dealer!

I'm so glad that GM didn't go under, and was bailed out, but I was one of the stock holders that was left holding worthless stock!!!!!!!

I read in the paper the other day that they paid back the Goverment a couple of billion dollars of the bail out money, why didn't they pay their loyal stock holders first?

All I can say is be very carefull puting your money into the stock market, but you could do worse with Bernie Madoff :dunno:
