4l65e Tc-to-flywheel Bolt Access?

Recommended Posts

When I removed the 4l60e from my '95 Blazer the whole freakin' bottom of the bell-housing came off - exposing the TC-to-flywheel bolts. My '01 Blazer 4l65e bell-housing has a 3" view port. There is no apparent acces to the TC bolts through this port.

Do I have to pull the transmission back a few inches to access the TC bolts? or am I stupid - and missing something?

thanks,

I believe you remove the starter to access the TC bolts.

Also I got thinking there was a change in bellhousings in the 4L60E at some point from a 2 piece to the one piece. I don't believe they are interchangeable without changing other parts but you will want to dig deeper on that however. I want to believe the input shafts are different.

Quite right. The '95 was the two-piece. There were also two annoying black transmission support brackets added by '95 to compensate for the weakness of the two-piece bell-housing.

Now the '01 is the one-piece bell-housing. Your TC-bolt starter-opening access suggestion was viable and effective. Three 15mm bolts.

Thanks.
