Quick Stereo Question

I installed an AM/FM/CD out of another vehicle into my 04 Silverado. It showed "LOCKED" when I put it in and I had a dealer unlock it. If I unplug it for some reason now, will I have to go back to a dealer, or will it work now that the radio knows my truck's VIN?

Not 100% but I'm pretty sure it's tied to the VIN. It'd really suck to have a dead battery for a few days and be away from the truck only to come back and find that the radio was locked after you get it running.

Not positive if it will display "locked" again but I am pretty sure the the dealership is entitled to give you the code to input yourself, specially after you paid them to unlock it.

Also if you bought the vehicle brand new then it should be listed somewhere with the book/glove box paper work area.

from my experience the radios on this model are not tied into the VIN once its unlocked. the dealer should have given you the unlock code at the time they unlocked it.

all they need off the stereo to unlock it is the serial number.
