Radio And Chime Volume Very Low After Oem Radio Replacement

I bought a new 2010 work truck about 2 weeks ago but I needed to upgrade my radio because the work truck didn't have a way to play CD's. So I bought a used OEM am/fm/cd radio from a member of this forum and installed it myself. It came out of a 2009 truck. Of course it displayed "LOCKED" and I took it to my dealer to get it reprogrammed to learn my truck's VIN.

 

The problem is the radio doesn't have very much volume. I have to turn it all the way up just to here the music at a medium soft level. I can hardly hear the vehicle chimes and can't here the tick-tock from the turn signals at all. The old radio was at least 5 times louder and all the chimes, etc were working perfectly. It's almost like there is a master volume control that is turned way down.

 

Is there something the dealer failed to do when reprogramming the replacement radio to account for the lack of overall system volume? I doubt it is a problem with the replacement radio but I can't rule that out. All the features of the replacement radio work correctly. I checked the auto volume setting but it was already turned off.

 

The dealer charged me $102 to do the reprogramming, which kind of makes me mad because it didn't take him hardly any time.

did ya take the truck back?,

 

$102 is the flat rate ,the tech gets his money,most likley 1.0 hr,if it takes 15 min,he gets his hour ,if it takes 2.0 hrs,he still only gets the hour,it was your choice for this nuty upgrade ,don't be mad at the GD system.

 

take the truck back ,they'll hook up the scanner to SPS programing and see if they missed something in all of the radio options to program,,

You will have to brake open the owners manual...but using a button on the radio you can increase/decrease the chime volume

I'm aware I can increase the chime volume but that doesn't help the music volume.

I replied to your post in the audio section, I think that particular radio needs an amp to work correctly. Most of the AM/FM/CD stereos had factory amps. My wife's Impala has the same radio and it has an amp. I have the same problem as you when I installed a CD stereo in my 2004 W/T.
