Nitto 285-70-17 Terra Grapplers Load E: Bad Wear

I have a set of Nitto Terra Grapplers on my 08 GMC 2500HD Extended, 6.5 box, Duramax, Leer Canopy. The truck does not carry loads or do any towing other than a 3500LB single axle trailer. Virtually no off road.

The tires have only 25K on them and only have 3/32nds left. They have been rotated and balanced every 5K miles by America Tires in Gresham, Oregon. The wear has

been even for all tires with no allignment issues, etc. This has got to be the poorest wearing tires I have ever bought in the last 40 years! They also not not carry any factory wear guarantee.

USE AT OWN RISK FOR TIRE WEAR!!!

Welcome to the world of heavy duty trucks! 25k is pretty decent mileage for a HD truck. HD trucks and tires do not play nice with each other.

My learning experience is not to buy any LT tire that does not have a mileage warranty. The NITTO has no wear warranty. I will buy the next set with a warranty and get the warranty adjustment

if they wear out too soon. BFG offers 40K warranty and Hancook 60K. With a good warranty, I could get a good portion of the purchase price back if they only wear say 30K.

I've had some wear issues with Toyo tires as well.

2500HD trucks are basically brutal on tires. But, hey, if you're gonna dance, you gotta pay the fiddler.

I've also had Load Range-E Toyos and Nitto on 1500 Z-71s and they seemingly last forever.

I recently put Michelin E's on our Tahoe. I would expect that they'll almost outwear our useful life of the truck. The Michelin LTX - M/S2 is one helluva tire, by the way.

Good luck in your quest for a longer wearing tire.

Thanks for the input. My truck weighs 7250 pounds and the Diesel in the front just punishes tires. I use Michelin LTX M/S in a 265-70-16 on my wife's 2004 V8 Explorer and they easily last 90k.

I have used this tire on a 1996 and her 2004 and the wear is excellent.

I tried a set of Michelin LTX AT2 Load D, 285-70-17, on my current truck but the sidewalls would fold at maximum pressure and could not handle the weight if the diesel when cornering or braking.

Michelin have me my money back and I tried the Nitto. I must stay with Load E to keep safe handling and braking. I will not use Nitto again considering they have no wear warranty.

i got a 60k warranty on my general grabbers...a bit cheaper then BFs with just as bad ass look, they are rather noisey depending on road surface but hell they go through anything...

Rear tires on my 2500HD are holding up very well and show little wear since install (Nov 09). The added HD springs really seem to be doing their job and help with not only extra payloads, but usuall tire wear. After a winter of plowing and having all that payload of salt in my bed, I can see that having that extra spring helps in keeping tires from wearing as fast. Normally I would get 12-18 months out of tires on my 2500HD.

I added Timbrens SES to the front last Dec, so I'm keeping an eye on whether or not it will also retard the front tires when it comes to wear. We had a brutal winter here this past winter, and the tires on my 2500HD look better then I would have thought they would after this past winter.
