My name is Cole, I love my truck and my Jeep. But I am going to shoot straight out of the gate with a question. For starters, I have a 2002 Silverado 4X4 it has 142,000 miles on it. But, the check engine light cut on the other day and I stopped by the local Advanced and had the code read. I am not to savy with all of the codes but essentially the gentlemen told me that the problem was probably my gas cap. I purchased and new one and it worked. The light went off and I had no problems until this morning. I drove the truck to work and the light was not on. I parked, went into the office for a few hours and when I stepped out for lunch and started her the light came back on. I am just curious if any one out there may know the problem. Thanks!

Hello Clemson69 and Welcome aboard!

Take your gas cap off again and re-tighten it......obviously...and I'm sure you've done that already. :(

If that doesn't work this time, you'll have to have the code read again.

AutoZone stores used to give out free code books with instructions on how to read them and what they meant and a GM shaped key (for inserting appropriatley into the diagnostics connection pins, of course).

At least they USED to. Haven't been in quite awhile, so I'm not postive this is still the case.

If they still give these, at least you could track things down. Your truck will remember for several starts what previous code faults were, so you can still check even if the light resets.

Welcome!

If the code is for the gas-cap, you'll have to have it reset again to clear the code. It will clear on it's own, but takes a while (50 starts ???).
