Water Leak Under Carpet

After bringing my truck in for the water leak three different times the Service Manager assured me that "they finally got it". Unfortunately, when I got home I checked the areas again and found them still soaking wet. I called the Service Manager again and he offered to order a new piece of underlayment rather than keeping the truck for days trying to dry it out. When the part arrived I scheduled an appointment for them to install the part and finish the job. When I got there to get the truck they had it outside running with all the carpet pulled up and the heater on high. This was their way of drying out the underlayment. The area seemed dry and they quickly put it all back together and I drove home. However, I noticed on the way that 1/4 tank of gas was gone so they must of had it running for quite some time!

After all the problems with resolving this issue I checked under the carpet again several days ago. Guess what? The carpet pad under the drivers foot area wasn't there anymore. I called the Service Manager and asked why was the new part that we had ordered not been installed and why the truck now had no jute pad at all? He said that " to install the new pad they would of had to remove the whole dash, but didn't know why the old pad wasn't dried out and reinstalled." He then said "to bring the truck in again (trip #5) and they would find the old pad and reinstall it." So, back to the dealer I go and now the mechanic is who did the work is "out sick and the Service Manager can't find the missing pad (what a surprise)." The Service Manager offers to give me some other used pad pieces so I can make something up myself and when the mechanic returns they'll see if they can locate the original piece and he'll be sure to contact me." Well, it's been almost 3 weeks and there's been no calls. Fortunately enough, I was able to piece together a suitable piece from the odd pieces that they gave me, but for my next truck I'll be seriously looking at a FORD!

In closing, I'd like to leave you all with some advice... before you leave the dealer check the area for yourself and be sure that they completely dried it out and put the necessary padding back in. If they leave it wet as with they did with mine, the carpet being rubber backed will cause the latent moisture to remain there and start rust and mold. By the time you discover what has happened the warranty will be long gone and the issue will be yours to sort out!

Good luck all...
