Equal Length Or Long Tube Headers

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at getting some headers for my 04 Escalade and want either equal length shorty or long tube headers. All the hearders I see online look to be unequal length shorty.

Are these maybe just generic pictures and the actual headers are equal length?

What are the benifits of long tube headers?

I also live in California and need to keeps my cats- Will long tube headers let me keep my cats?

If so, will they heat up enough to reduce emissions so I pass smog?

Lastly, some headers are A.I.R and some are without A.I.R- What is this and how do I know if I have and/or need it?

Thank you very much!

first you can't run LT's in CA. do to you having to move the cats, and the O2s from factory location..

only CARB. certified headers can be used on Emission controlled vehicles. shortys are not worth the money, maybe a 10 HP increase, if you can find a set of mid lainth with a CARB cert. then thats the best you can do. i'm running TOG's on my SS but they been closed for about 4 yrs.

try here..

go long tubes or go home

LOL...sometimes sacrifices have to be made for Laws. Especially CARB laws.

I would run doug's if it were me...they are a top notch header...and splurge for the ceramic coating...you'll be glad you did.

Dont worry man...I'll burn a tire in my backyard for you. Increase our carbon foot print so much that the only way hippies can catch up with it is to off them selves....with hemp rope that is.

Thanks for the info. I looked at Doug's website and like I was saying there's only unequal length shorty headers. Any other suggestions? Also, what's up with the A.I.R and without A.I.R?

Thank you.

A.I.R stands for air injection(smog pump). on yours there is no pump..some times there "shortys" are a mids. you may need to call and talk to them on how long the lubes are, and CARB #

good luck..

They look good but I didn't want to spend that much. I think they're a little over priced. Besides that they aren't equal length. Maybe this doesn't matter that much because they're longer than shorties, but it's very important so the pressure pulses reach the collector at different times. Any other options?

*good headers are not cheap. loony tree huggers in your state have caused a circus show for manufacturers to go through to be able to sell their products, it costs money and that gets passed on.

*You can't get perfectly equal length headers without long tubes, there just isn't the room - you can't have long tubes b/c it would mean that your catalytic converters would not be in the exact same spot as they were from the factory, and that is a CARB requirement, they most be undisturbed.

let's take a step back: why do you want headers in the first place? are you running forced induction? large cam with worked over heads?
