Oil Life Reset Not Going Back To 100%?

Hi there,

I just purchased a used 2003 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 crew cab over the weekend with 97,450 miles. This morning I took it in to a local shop for an oil change and 2 things happened, my oil pressure gauge stopped working and when I reset the oil life meter instead of going back to 100% it went to 81%. I brought it back immediately and they checked the oil level and all the connections and no change. The tech said that the oil sensor is most likely the culprit for the oil pressure gauge but what about the oil life meter? Is it related?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

cluster has nothing to with except turn on the message ,the ecm has the oil life monitor system in it ,we had one the other day and after reseting with the tech 2 ,it went to 0 again, the tech disconnected the battery, reconnected and went for a burn and message never returned

give it a try

Thanks for the tip but no difference. Disconnected the battery for a few minutes and reset the system and it went back to 81% again. Perhaps I need to disconnect the battery for longer? I will try that tomorrow evening. I think I do because nothing changed after the battery was disconnected, all my stations etc were intact. I'm guessing there's a reserve that needs to be exhausted as well or maybe I should pull the ECM fuse too.

On the oil gauge it still doesn't register but I do notice that when I start the truck the gauge moves slightly to the left and then to zero and done. I'm starting to think it's the gauge but I think I will just take it into the dealer for diagnosis. I was planning on going anyway to have them give it a thorough inspection.

Thanks again for chiming in it's really appreciated!

Finally got around to taking care of this. Took it to the dealer today and it's fixed. Luckily it was not the cluster. The oil sending unit was responsible for the gauge not moving and the oil life reset was fixed with a CPU upgrade. Wasn't cheap but it was driving me nuts so it was worth fixing!

Thanks for the help!

ya could of toggled the message to odometer, ignored the oil life and did it the old fashion way "change at X amount of miles" and saved yourself some money...but thats just me i'm a stingy 90 year old man trapped in a 20 somethen year old body
