Exhaust Help

Are we talking straight pipe duals or 2 mufflers, or a single in dual out muffler? As long as you keep the diameter of the pipe fairly small you'll have no problems with backpressure and torque/power loss.

I kept everything from the muffler inlet forward and put on a 3" single pipe out the pass. side in front of wheel, sounds aweseome, but it isn't straight true duals. I personally don't think it's worth the money to do that, you have to reprogram the computer after you delete the 2 O2 sensors and cats.

I think the older gen motors worked well well dual exhaust from what I've read the newer motors need more back pressure to make the torque. I used flowmaster on my 5.3 and lost low end torque due to the free'er flowing exhaust. I swapped to magnaflow and got the torque back and then some.

You've got to be careful with the pipe size if you do go with a dual exhaust. I personally thing 2.25" pipes would work fine, but if you get more than 2.5" I think your going to hurt performance rather than help. :)

Thanks for the input. I have 2 stock cats and i just want to run no muffler and just straight pipes from the cats. I will just be using the stock sized piping which i think is 2.25"

I actually got the flowmaster american thunder exhaust and used the 30-series for a while, then replaced with a 40-series. It rusted out in 2-1/2 years and had horrible drone while towing. Otherwise sounded good under normal driving. But when I replaced.. I replaced with a full cat back magnaflow dual exhaust all stainless and loved it. Right out of the gate, I could feel a big difference in torque taking off.

So to answer the question, it was a complete cat back exhaust.

Fuel mileage, back-pressure loss, & idle problems are just a couple of the things that pop to mind when I hear people talk about true duals.... All of which have caused me at some point to go behind somebody and fix the problem. Keep the Y-pipe and make it to the muffler and then split it out into 2 pipes..... or come out of the catalytic converter and split into 2 pipes.... JUST KEEP THE Y and the Converters....

I am quite expensive to come behind ya and clean up the problems later.... Especially, if I told you not to do it before hand....

I run true duals from the motor with no cats (I'm often in fields and don't need any extra heat), and no mufflers. Previous to this I had everything from the manifolds back removed while i figured out what I wanted to do. And previous to that I had Flowmaster Super 44's on it. I haven't noticed any difference in power, fuel mileage, or weird operating issues between any of the 3.

What kind of fields are you in? I seem to have never had an issue with heat in any of my fields..... Just curious...... I have never managed to catch my field/truck/hay/grass or any thing in my fields on fire. What are you driving over?

Most of the time I'm in plowed crop fields, but occasionally I do have to drive through and park in fields of prarie grass. It's just one of those things I'd rather not see. ...Plus it's louder.

hey guys I would like to add a better sounding exhaust to my new silverado but i'm really not sure what my best choices would be . manaflow or flowmaster I don't wanna do anything crazy I just a better sound and if you could recommend a good site to order them from that would helpful to I'm a total newb when it come to ordering autoparts online I was checking out summitracing.com but there are a lot of choices thanks for your input :idiot:

Magnaflow and Corsa seem to be the favorites around here. Flowmasters are known for their ability to rust out quickly. I like my exhaust loud, but for mild sounding, it's hard to go wrong with Corsa Touring cat-back.
