Intake Manifold Upgrades For Vortec?

Recommended Posts

I need to replace my LOWER intake manifold but Im wondering if theres one out there that is just a one piece unit as opposed to this cheesy two piece half plastic unit. The lower part is around $400 but if I could get a edelbrock one or something along those lines that eliminates this two piece unit that would be wicked.

You have next to no choices. You can replace te stock base with another and add the V-Max intake spacer to lift the upper plenum 1". Or you can purchase the marine intake off of the Mercruiser boat engines. It has the same throttle body location but includes external fuel rails with standard MPFI. It is not a bolt on however as the boat engines are missing provisions that the truck ones have. That and you have to wire the fuel injectors which is pretty simple. The base on that intake is cast iron and the upper plenum is aluminum. For my 96 I am just bought the V max and the CSFI to MPFI upgrade for now. Once I go beyond 350 cubic inches I will buy the marine intake.

If you are good with a shop or have all the tools you can convert a Vortec TBI intake to MPFI, or even use the RamJet manifold. Not a bolt on however, machining required.

There are no direct replacement performance intakes for the L31.
