Headlights Tempermental

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

My uncle is having a problem with his 96 K3500 DRW lights.Sometimes when you turn

the switch on everything works fine.Other times you need to give the dash a smack for

all the lights to turn on.

Had a brand new headlight switch installed that worked great for a few days, now back to being tempermental.

Can't see any chaffed or loose wires, and barley ever uses tilt.

Any other knowen problem areas or things i can check when he gets here?

Thanks

John

not sure... but I have 1996 K3500 also, and it's doing the same thing. At least I know now not to bother swapping out that switch.

I have, at times, heard what sounds like a relay in the dash sort of "sizzing" (bad juju, I know)... so I'm suspecting there is a relay or breaker in there that's involved in the circuit somewhere, which is the real culprit.

Let me know what you find... I'll probably need to do the same thing to mine.

I had not tried smacking the dash until I read your post... but yes, they'll come on if I hit the dash on the left side. Usually, I just flick the switch off/on a few times and they'll finally come on. The way I know that they're not on (if it's not quite dark yet) is the green headlight indicator stays lit on the instrument panel... when the lights finally do come on, that green indicator goes off.
